Toilets
A toilet that never stops running has a tired flapper or fill valve. If it rocks, or a damp ring shows at the base, the wax seal and closet bolts are the suspects. A crack in the bowl or tank ends the discussion, and a new toilet goes in.
Everyday fixtures give out in familiar ways. Toilets refill on their own. Faucets drip through the night. Showers go from scalding to freezing. Disposals seize. Plumbers of New York repairs them, or replaces them when repair stops making sense.
A small repair now protects the floor, the cabinet below and your water bill.

A toilet that never stops running has a tired flapper or fill valve. If it rocks, or a damp ring shows at the base, the wax seal and closet bolts are the suspects. A crack in the bowl or tank ends the discussion, and a new toilet goes in.
A faucet that drips has a worn cartridge, washer or seat inside. Where parts are still made, we rebuild the faucet. Where they are not, we install a new one so you are not calling us back for the same drip.
A shower that swings between hot and cold, or a spout that keeps running after the handle is closed, usually points to the cartridge. When the valve is too old for any cartridge to fit, we put in a new valve through the back of the wall or an access panel. In a tiled bathroom we use the access panel where we can, so the tile stays whole.
A disposal that hums without spinning is jammed, and one that leaks at the casing is finished. We free the jam and press reset, or install a new unit. Either way we examine the drain connection below, because a loose slip nut there is a common cause of a wet cabinet.
Kneel at each sink and each toilet. You should find a stop valve and a braided or copper supply line in decent shape. When the valve is frozen or weeping, or the line is split or ballooning, replace both while the plumber is there.
If the drain is slow, the drain cleaning page is the place to start. If a wall or floor is damp for no obvious reason, read leak detection. The main page carries the complete list of what we do, from heaters to sewer lines.
