Manlius's unique plumbing challenges

About 138 nights a year below freezing, when uninsulated crawlspace lines give out

The oldest blocks in town run plumbing decades older than the newer builds toward Fayetteville

First frost typically lands around October 18

Seasonal timing

April highs average 56 degrees while nights still fall near 34, so the melt comes in daily pulses and a sump pump that ran fine in fall can stall under real load.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

The pump hums but no water moves. What's happening?

Usually the impeller is jammed or the check valve has failed, and the pump is working against a closed line. Cut power to the pump at the breaker and leave it there until someone looks at it.

My basement floor is damp but the pit is dry. What does that mean?

Usually that water is coming through the wall or the floor joint rather than up under the slab, which the pump can't reach. It can also mean the pit is not the low point of the basement.

Why is there water in the pit in the middle of summer?

It can be a high water table, a leaking supply line, or a downspout tied into the drain tile. A pump running in dry weather is worth tracing rather than ignoring.

How far from the house should the discharge end?

Far enough that the water does not walk right back to the footing, which is more distance than most short pipes give it. Grade and downspouts near De Witt matter as much as the pipe length.
