Lancaster's unique plumbing challenges

About 118 nights a year below freezing, when uninsulated crawlspace lines give out

The oldest blocks in town run plumbing decades older than the newer builds toward Depew

First frost typically lands around October 31

Seasonal timing

First frost usually lands around Oct 31, and once the nights stay near 20 degrees the stack in an unheated wall stops draining as freely as it did in warmer weather.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

Do tree roots get into cast iron the way they get into clay?

They can, at any joint that has opened up or rusted through. Cast iron resists roots better than old clay tile, but a stack or lateral with failing hub joints is still an invitation.

Does old cast iron affect water quality?

Drain stacks carry waste out, so they don't touch what comes from the tap. Supply-side questions about older service lines are separate, and your water utility can tell you what material serves the street.

How can I tell whether my drains are cast iron?

Cast iron is heavy, dull grey and sounds solid when tapped, while plastic is light and hollow. In a basement you can usually see the vertical stack and read it in a second. Rust staining at a joint is the other giveaway.

Who owns the sewer line between my house and the street?

In most cases the homeowner owns the lateral from the house out to the main, including the part under the sidewalk or the front lawn. The municipality takes over at the main itself. That split is why a blockage under the yard is usually a private repair. Homes over toward Williamsville show the same thing.
