Boonville's unique plumbing challenges

About 162 nights a year below freezing, when uninsulated crawlspace lines give out

The oldest blocks in town run plumbing decades older than the newer builds toward Leyden

First frost typically lands around October 15

Seasonal timing

With first frost around October 15 and about 162 nights below freezing behind it, an outside sill cock left connected to a hose is the most common first casualty.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

Do outdoor spigots have their own shutoff?

Most older houses have a dedicated valve on the interior side of each sill cock, often in the basement ceiling near where the pipe passes through the rim joist. Frost-free hydrants skip that valve, but they only drain properly with the hose disconnected. If you cannot find an interior valve, the main is the fallback.

Where should I expect the main shutoff inside the house?

Look on the street-facing wall of the basement, close to where the service line comes through the foundation, usually within a few feet of the meter. Homes on a crawlspace often have it near the pressure tank or under the kitchen instead. If the house has been added onto, the valve can end up behind finished wall, which is worth knowing before you need it.

Can I operate the curb stop myself?

Most water departments do not want homeowners in the curb box, since the valve needs a long key and turning it wrong can damage the utility side. Calling the department is the right move for a planned shutoff. In a genuine emergency, get the water stopped and sort out the paperwork after.

Is the water here on a village system or private wells?

Both exist across this part of the state, and the answer often changes street by street rather than town by town. Homes on the older built-up streets tend to be on a public main, while properties further out toward Port Leyden run their own wells. What you are on decides whether a curb stop exists at all.
